Wistfully yearning for her boss (Tom Wilkinson), yet unaware of what he’s taken from her, she’s but a vessel until she ultimately explodes. It’s her character who rattles off the Alexander Pope quote the film’s title is taken from, and, boy, does she break you heart.

May ‘Mayday’ Parker

In a universe where the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson wasn’t still-born or kidnapped or wiped away by a deal with the devil or whatever, she instead grew up to take over the legacy of her father as the MC2 Universe’s Spider-Girl.
May ‘Mayday’ Parker was the realization of Peter’s dream of having a family and a future beyond being Spider-Man, though he initially fought against her using the powers she’d inherited to fight crime.
Mayday is probably best known for having the little comic book that could. Facing cancellation several times, the series continued thanks to massive fan campaigns that brought it back as Amazing Spider-Girl, Spectacular Spider-Girl, and saw Mayday have her own versions of many of Peter’s greatest adventures — including her very own Clone Saga. While her series did eventually come to an end, the character remained viable just in case Marvel seeks to continue her story in the (alternate) future.
A version of May also appeared in the alt-future tale Earth X, taking on the Venom symbiote for her super-heroic adventures. That version was seen a few years ago in the pages of Uncanny Avengers as part of an alt-futures/realities squad being recruited for a secret mission.

Spider-Man has reached children across the globe, and Marvel has truly embraced that. With multiple incarnations seeing various success in Japan, in 2004 Marvel teamed with Gotham Entertainment Group to create a unique incarnation of the hero in Spider-Man: India.
Pavitr Prabhakar was basically a simple Indian version of Peter, though his powers were granted to him by a yogi instead of a genetic/radioactive accident. His Uncle Bhim was killed, and he fights Nalin Oberoi (Norman Osborn) and an Indian version of Doctor Octopus in his story. There’s even an Indian Mary Jane, named Meera Jain.
The series offered a unique look at Indian beliefs and mythology while also showing how Spider-Man fits into any culture the world around.
Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac)
Miguel O’Hara is the melodramatic anti-hero from Earth-928 in Across The Spider-Verse. When we are first introduced to him, we learn that he’s the leader of an inter-dimensional effort to wrangle all of the “anomalies” that have escaped to other dimensions. He and Jessica Drew meet Gwen Stacey during a fight and O’Hara takes Gwen under his wing, begrudgingly. His main objective is to keep the Spider-Verse intact because he’s seen first-hand the destabilizing effect of trying to alter the course of events in one dimension.
O’Hara was the first non-White Spider-Man in the Marvel comics when he was introduced to the world in 1992. His story was a bit different from the other Spider-People. O’Hara was the head of genetics at Alchemax and attempted to replicate Spider-Man’s powers. He was addicted to a drug called Rapture and threw himself into his experiments to curb his addiction. When he was experimenting, his coworker sabotaged his machine and his DNA became 50 percent spider. He became Spider-Man 2099 and joined forces with Peter Parker to fight alternate versions of Peter’s most infamous villains.

In July 1963’s Amazing Spider-Man #3, Otto Octavius became the fearsome Doctor Octopus. He has since been one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies (or, as argued by some including writer Dan Slott, his greatest of all), plaguing Peter Parker both alone and often as the leader of the Sinister Six. He’s been engaged to May Parker, died and been resurrected, fought the Avengers, and nearly died again.
Then, thanks to his genius intellect and his slow-burn shame to swap minds with Peter Parker, Otto Octavius’s consciousness resided in Peter’s body. And with all of Peter’s memories, as well as the knowledge of how it felt to live through his major moments, Otto worked toward becoming the so-called Superior Spider-Man.
Otto promised a dying Peter Parker that he would not be leaving the world, or the identity of Peter Parker and Spider-Man, to a villain, and for the most part, he made good on his word. Unfortunately, as he tried to implement some of his more villainous ideas, including the Sinister Six, into his hero act, he faltered at times.
Finally, after a brief up-and-down brief career as Spider-Man, he made the ultimate sacrifice to allow Peter to return to defeat the Goblin King.
Still, Otto’s time as Spider-Man wasn’t over yet, as he eventually returned to the mantle of the Superior Spider-Man for a short time before returning to his roots as Doctor Octopus, a role he’s been comfortably playing as a villain in the current run of Amazing Spider-Man as well as in the Devil’s Reign limited series.
Ultimate Peter Parker

In the year 2000, Marvel Comics launched a new Universe for the 21st-century reader, with updated versions of the characters and stories that had been made classic in the prior four to five decades. The flagship title of this Ultimate universe was Ultimate Spider-Man, by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley.
Ultimate Peter Parker still became Spider-Man, but rather than rapidly aging the character, his adventures were set entirely with him as a young teenager in high school, dealing with the life of an average 21st-century teen.
His job had him working online, he had love triangles, his powers were from genetic engineering (as were the powers of nearly every other Ultimate character for the first couple of years), and he got to truly explore what it was like to be a kid living with very adult experiences and responsibilities.
Ultimate Peter made the Ultimate sacrifice while fighting his world’s Green Goblin, but the legacy of Spider-Man lived on in that world (more on that later).

8. Bring It On (2000)
Bring It On is the most important moment of Dunst’s career, a generational touchstone that made her a superstar and prompted Roger Ebert to deem it “the Citizen Kane of cheerleader movies.” Solidifying the onscreen persona that Dunst would go on to milk and subvert in equal measure, the film is a testament to her intuition. As Torrance Shipman, the jubilant captain of a championship San Diego squad, Dunst understands that for Bring It On to succeed, it must be both satirical and earnest. And so she ratchets everything up a notch to heighten the affectionate parody at its core. (Her extremity also helps the story’s racial politics land more profoundly.) Torrance and her friends take cheerleading very seriously, which in turn makes them all seem a bit silly. Dunst leans into that paradox without letting on that she knows it’s silly — the mark of a performer who understands herself and her audience.
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
Few actors have had as incredible run as a teen star, let alone their whole career(!), as Dunst did from 1999-2000. Drop Dead Gorgeous may not have been the blockbuster success Bring It On was, but the hilarious, inappropriate, way ahead of its time cult mockumentary about a teen beauty pageant lives in our hearts forever like Diane Sawyer lives in high schooler Amber Atkins’. Dunst is on her comedic A game as Amber, playing up the Midwestern accent and keeping her head held high and tap shoes on, even when the rest of the girls in the Mount Rose, Minnesota pageant are getting whacked by the competition. Her goodness is infectious, and she manages to parody pageantry with a smile and wave. The Sarah Rose Cosmetics Mount Rose American Teen Princess, indeed!

Believe it or not, the most prominent clone of Peter Parker didn’t technically debut in the ’90s or even the late ’80s. He showed up for the first time in Amazing Spider-Man #149 way back in October of 1975.
Of course, people don’t remember Ben for that brief first run with the Jackal. No, instead they remember him from the massive ‘Clone Saga ‘ storyline that saw Ben, Peter, Kaine, and others entangled in a web (sorry) of mystery that got increasingly complicated and went on forever.
Ben, for a time, thought he was the real Peter Parker, and took over entirely as Spider-Man. He also debuted the identity of Scarlet Spider, now in use by fellow clone Kaine, and even once bonded with the Carnage symbiote, the «son» of Venom.
Reilly died to close out the Clone Saga, disappearing in a puff of dust, but he later returned in The Clone Conspiracy and, for a time, returned as the Scarlet Spider in his own ongoing series.
He’s been something of the main Spider-Man again in the ‘Beyond’ era of Amazing Spider-Man for a few months now, but Peter Parker will be reclaiming the mantle full time soon and it looks like Ben will have to forge another new path.
6. The Power of the Dog (2021)
As Rose Gordon, a widow tormented by her cruel new brother-in-law (Benedict Cumberbatch) in 1920s Montana, Dunst keeps a lot on the inside — until Rose finally explodes and everything comes pouring out. Late in The Power of the Dog, when her son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is in danger, she wanders into the dusty yard, crying to the heavens. Dunst isn’t known for operatic meltdowns, which makes this one all the more powerful. Jane Campion’s masterly psychodrama is a story of repression, something Rose knows a thing or two about. She captures the working-class worry of someone who thought she’d finally escaped heartache, only to find herself worse off than ever.
Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson)
When Peter B. was pulled into Miles’ universe in Into the Spider-Verse, he had no interest in helping Miles defeat Kingpin, let alone becoming Miles’ mentor. After more than two decades of fighting crime as the Spider-Man of Earth-616, Peter B. was worn out both physically and emotionally. Luckily, Miles and the Spider-Gang helped reinvigorate Peter B.’s enthusiasm for being a hero and he returned to his universe ready to turn his life around.
In Across the Spider-Verse, we learn that Peter B. made things right with his wife, Mary Jane, and the two had a child together. Peter B. expresses hope that his daughter will turn out to be like Miles. In the comics, Earth-616’s Spider-Man shares a backstory with Peter. B Parker, but that’s pretty much where the similarities end.
Miles Morales vs. Peter Parker – who wins the battle?
A few weeks ago, I posted a list of characters from comics that Miles Morales could defeat, and one of them on the list was Peter Parker and his Spider-Man. However, while researching this particular Marvel matchup, I realized Peter is “no slouch” in Marvel Comics.
It might feel that I fell into the nostalgia trap of Peter Parker being the original Spider-Man, but it truly isn’t like that. This battle established that Miles and Peter are so similar yet so different from each other, especially in the way they approach fights and their abilities that make them so unique.
However, it also indicated Miles’s lack of experience compared to Peter, who has been against some of the most formidable villains of Marvel Comics. Miles is a genius that adapts quickly during his fights, but Peter’s intelligence gives him an upper hand in his personal and superhero life.
Peter might not be the strongest version of Spider-Man in the Multiverse, but he is so good at what he has in his arsenal, which makes him such a strong opponent. I didn’t even mention his martial arts and combat skills, which Miles still needs to work on, and the fact that his Spider-Sense is so attuned to Web of Life and Destiny, making his ability more powerful during combat.
Yes, Miles has more sensitive Spidey Sense, but it affects him so hard that he can barely concentrate during the combat.
Nevertheless, Peter Parker is a stronger Spider-Man at this moment. While Miles could defeat Queens native in perfect conditions, this battle makes them both equals, whereas Peter is usually better.

The movie is based on the 2010 Vanity Fair article ‘The Suspects Wore Louboutins’ which details the exploits of the real-life gang known as the Bling Ring, a group of fame-obsessed teenagers. They use the internet to track celebrities like Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, etc. and then rob their houses.

11. The Beguiled (2017)
Dunst had played uptight strivers before this, but she also suffuses The Beguiled with a sense of crushing dejection. Sofia Coppola asked Dunst to lose weight for the role of a discouraged southern schoolteacher who falls for a convalescent Union Army soldier (Colin Farrell) in war-torn 1864, which Dunst declined to do because she was “35 and hate working out.” (Relatable.) Frankly, it makes more sense that way. Edwina (great name) isn’t meant to be aspirational; her tentativeness places her at odds with the ever-assured headmistress (Nicole Kidman) who runs the joint. When things go awry, it’s Edwina who suffers the most acutely. Like the movie surrounding her, Dunst remains deliciously understated.
Abilities and equipment
One of the best attributes one superhero can have is special abilities. Each individual uses their abilities to defeat opponents, and both Spider-Men are skillful. Let’s start with the OG, Peter Parker. Most fans know his usual powers and abilities since he’s been adapted in many other fictional media since his debut in Marvel Comics in 1962. His most notable abilities are his Spidey Sense, superhuman strength, stamina, agility, speed, wall-crawling, contaminant Immunity, and regeneration, while his equipment provides him with Web Slingers and Utility Belt with various tools.
Peter Parker evolved so much throughout the comics, and his Spidey Sense alone is really impressive since he is closely connected with the Web of Life and Destiny. However, if we took in Miles’ powers and abilities, it seems that the Brooklyn native could possibly have more impressive tools since they are different from Peter Parker.
Miles shares most of his powers with Peter, like superhuman aspect, wallcrawling, and Spidey Sense (less powerful), but he has the addition of electricity generation, which includes many other abilities like Mega Venom Blast, Venom Beam, Energy-Thread Generation, and others.
Miles Morales also can go invisible with his camouflage and regenerate fast with his healing abilities. It’s also worth mentioning that Miles was bitten by a spider that Norman Osbourne created using the Oz formula, which he believed could make the individual immortal.
