Организаторы первой кинопремии 2024 года (победителей объявят уже 7 января) – «Золотой глобус», опубликовали список фильмов и сериалов, претендующих на награды по итогам уходящего 2023 года.
Среди сериалов бесспорным фаворитом голливудской пишущей братии стал финальный сезон «Наследников», у него девять номинаций, включая такие как «Лучшая драма», «Лучший актёр сериала» (Брайан Кокс, Киран Калкин и Джереми Стронг) и «Лучшая актриса сериала» (Сара Снук). Наряду с «Наследниками» на звание лучшего драматического шоу 2023 года также претендуют «1923», «Одни из нас», «Утреннее шоу» (3 сезон), «Корона» (6 сезон» и «Дипломатка».

2 Фиби Дайневор

Francesca & John Stirling
Some spoilers ahead from the novels: Francesca Bridgerton, one of the younger siblings, ties the knot with John Stirling, a Scottish Earl, sometime after the events of the third book. Francesca isn’t married for long, though.
After John’s passing at the beginning of the sixth book, she goes on to have a much more exciting romance with her husband’s cousin, Michael. But fans are willing to bet that this part of her love story isn’t coming for another season or two, as per the book series’ sequence of events.
However, fans of the novels are beginning to think that the beginning of Francesca’s love story — namely, her marriage to her first husband, John — may be part of the action in Netflix’s upcoming third season.
Why? Well, according to one fan, her jacket contains a hidden easter egg.

There were about 7,500 costume pieces.
“Basically, all together, inclusive of our principal wardrobe, there were costume pieces equaling 7,500,” Mirojnick tells BAZAAR. That number refers to individual items rather than full outfits, such as multiple overlays that make up one dress, or a piece of outerwear. “It’s kind of like cooking,” she explains. “You need to have the ingredients to be able to make the costume that’s necessary.”
Still, the number is staggering. Mirojnick believes there were about a thousand pieces for the principal characters alone, counting items such as capes, undergarments, and so on. Leading lady Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, had a whopping 104 costume changes.

Mirojnick’s team hired five cutters to make patterns and construct costumes for the principal roles, as well as two tailors. “Everything was basically bespoke, and so much hand-embroidery, beading, I mean, this was quite a glittery show,” she says.
For the background wardrobe, the team had to create their own costume house with clothing from companies from around the world, including Angel Costume Company in England, Peris Costume Company in Spain, Tirelli Costumi in Italy, and even some manufacturers in New York. They used this stock to dress the background characters, secondary players, and, if needed, quick-changes for principals.
Let’s not forget the bling. Jewelry was sourced from dealers in New York, Italy, and the U.K. An artisan and jewelry designer, Lorenzo Mancianti, was also on the team making pieces throughout the show. The tiaras were sourced in Italy and the U.K., and the principals’ tiaras came from the Swarovski Archive.
“I’ve been doing this a long time and I never like this,” Mirojnick says. “I guess it goes back to the days of Ben Hur and Cleopatra and those biblical epics, but now we’re in Regency England and the numbers are just as large.”

On Bridgerton’s relevance today:
«Even though Daphne isn’t our idea of a feminist today — because she does conform — her strength comes from saying no. She’s not a yes person; she stands up to her brother and she stands up to things that she doesn’t agree with. But what does make Daphne relevant to a young woman today are the parallels with social media. When I was prepping for the role, I thought a lot about how Daphne portrays this, ‘Everything’s fine, everything’s perfect, I wake up like this!’ persona. She goes to all these balls, she’s perfectly quaffed, she has to maintain the same energy and the same demeanor every single day — it’s so similar to social media. It’s just the same s—t, different era. Inside, Daphne is dealing with her own anxieties. I could relate to that a lot in that she’s displaying one thing out outwardly, but inwardly she’s feeling very different.”
Phoebe Dynevor says shooting this ‘Bridgerton’ scene was ‘kind of special’

While she was in the thick of filming Bridgerton Season 1, it was hard to predict what audiences would make of the show, which followed Daphne Bridgerton’s (Dyvenor) romance with the mysterious Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page). But Dynevor said she had an inkling that the series — which is based on a series of books by Julia Quinn — had a certain magic.
“I remember shooting the last scene in episode 1 where Regé and I have, like, our first dance together. And I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this feels kind of special,’” the actor recalled.
“There were, like, fireworks going off behind us and it was, like, really romantic music. It felt like a really special moment, but you never know if it’s going to come out on camera and the audience is going to feel that buzz, too. It’s hard to tell,” she went on to say.

Breaking Down The Bridgerton Books
A little context: the Netflix series is based on the romance novels by Julia Quinn that follow the love lives of the Bridgerton siblings. The first season was based on the first book in the series, The Duke and I, and followed the love story of Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page).
The second season was inspired by the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me, and focused on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley).
Netflix has already confirmed that the upcoming third season will loosely follow Quinn’s fourth book — yes, the show will be jumping slightly out of sequence — and will put the spotlight on Penelope and Colin Bridgerton.

“I was immediately intrigued by Shonda Rhimes doing Regency England. Growing up, I loved those movies, but everything I’d seen of that era had quite passive female characters. At her essence, Daphne wants to be loved, but the interesting part of her story is her realizing that conforming to all these complex social rules is not going to necessarily get her what she wants — a loving family, like the one she grew up in. But that is all she knows — her very small bubble. So, she does believe that the only way to get what she wants is by conforming to all these rules, to being the perfect debutante. The journey for her, which was so interesting to play, is evolving into a woman with agency and finding herself as a sexual being without having the luxury of time to do so.”

Now, about those corsets…
The famous corset maker Mr. Pearl was behind the body-hugging undergarments on the show. “ no two bodies that are alike. And so if there is a bosom or a shape, even at the top part of the body that has to be adjusted for the costume, he knows how to create that structure to be able to give you that,” Mirojnick says of what makes Mr. Pearl’s style unique. “The gowns would not fall over the body if there was no structure underneath that.”
The show includes cheeky nods to how uncomfortable the corsets were at the time. Women gasp for air when the laces are pulled taught; others blister around the edges of the garment. How comfortable was it—or wasn’t it—for the actors wearing the pieces in real life?
“I don’t think comfort comes into the conversation,” Mirojnick laughs. “We try to make it as comfortable as possible, but it isn’t as comfortable as wearing a sports bra—no how, no way.”

However, they did mostly use half corsets, which extend to the top of the ribs, rather than full-body corsets, which extend down to the waist and feel more restricting. Staying true to the time period, the focus of the silhouette, thanks to these corsets, was the bosom. “And so the corsets were made so that there is a pushup and a blossoming effect on top of the top of the neck line,” Mirojnick says.
The actors just had to get used to wearing the undergarments. “But as an end result, they wore it with as much grace as I’ve ever seen,” adds Mirojnick. “They were, I think, far more comfortable than they ever thought they’d be.”

Mirojnick and her team put a modern twist on Regency attire.
The fashion in Bridgerton is an interpretation of what people would have been wearing at the time, but with a contemporary upgrade. For example, the Featherington family wears floral prints in bright pinks, yellows, and oranges, which feel more 2020s than 1810s. And the heavy jewel embellishments on the gowns are more extravagant than they would have been in the actual time period.
Mirojnick wanted to overlay the look of the Regency era “with a bit of a modern sensibility, make it aspirational, intriguing, and with somewhat of a layer that would actually be very imaginative.”
She summed it up with a relatable analogy. “If you open up a Harper’s BAZAAR magazine of December 150 years ago, or a hundred years ago, it would be dull, it would be faded, the pages could be yellowed, and it could be kind of tattered, right?” she says. “But when you open up Harper’s BAZAAR today, it’s crisp, it’s clear, it’s hued, it’s either intense or pale or however the photographer feels about the subject that is being photographed. It’s rich and it’s of the moment and it’s clean, right? It’s the same thing of doing a Regency-infused show now, as opposed to replicating the exactness of the period.”

The intention with the show was not to make a historically accurate account. There were some 1810s fashions that «translate beautifully» for 2020 viewers, Mirojnick admits, but the rest were upgraded for the show. «We have increased the amount of glitter, increased the amount of color, increased the over embellishing. We have done things that actually can relate a little bit more to today’s point of view.”
Also making the show more modern and relatable is its diverse cast, which places representation in a genre that’s been historically white-washed. Roles of nobility such as Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), and members of the ensemble are played by Black actors. And when it came to styling, some actors wore natural Black hairstyles with their Regency costumes. The costume department worked with the hair and makeup teams to let these hairstyles shine on screen.
“The overall concept for the Bridgerton world allowed for an unconventional approach to just about everything,” Mirojnick says. “Our first conversations regarding character design always included hair and makeup. After studying our look books and discussing design direction, everyone interpreted historical references into our ‘new norm’ for the show. The hair and makeup designers were on exactly the same page and followed suit.”

Dyvenor will be back for Bridgerton Season 2. However, her character will take a backseat in the show’s sophomore outing, which will instead focus on the romantic adventures of Daphne’s older brother Anthony Bridgerton (Bailey). Daphne’s dashing duke won’t appear at all in future episodes, much to the disappointment of some fans.
Page’s exit was announced in April. It came as a shock to many viewers, though readers of Quinn’s novels likely weren’t as surprised, as his character doesn’t figure prominently beyond the first book.
As for his on-screen wife, she wasn’t blindsided by the news, she assured Variety.
“I had a bit of a heads up, so I knew,” she said. “But again, the show centers around the Bridgertons and there are eight books. I think maybe the fans of the books were more aware of that happening than the fans of the show. We’re very much passing on the baton to the lovely Johnny, who plays Anthony.”
On the many facets of Penelope:
“Penelope is entering into society — a world she’s not particularly comfortable in — and when you see Daphne’s debut, at the balls, getting courted, she’s doing it all right; Penelope is sort of doing it all wrong. She’s also an outsider in her family, but with Eloise, she can really let go and be herself. As the series progresses, we get to see more sides to her. Penelope is a dream to play as an actor because she has so many facets. She is a bit at odds with herself, though, because I think she wants what Eloise wants: to be independent and educated, and she’s aware that she’s very clever and that society limits women. But then there’s also the side of her that’s a real romantic and wants marriage and love. She really doesn’t admit that to anybody. But Penelope wants everything a modern woman wants; she’s a young girl ahead of her time”
‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 is currently filming
Dynevor also revealed that she was preparing to head back to work on the next season of the show, which began filming in April. She said she was eager to reunite with her fellow Bridgerton cast members, whom she considers family.
“I cannot wait to get back and see them all,” she said.
Although Daphne won’t be the focus of the upcoming season, Dynevor said she was looking forward to what the future holds for her character.
“I’d like to see her evolve as a mother and as a woman,” she said. “Where does someone go when they get everything they want?”

“We have to talk about Francesca’s wardrobe because it is holding a major clue about her season: Scottish tweed,” Cat Quinn said in an Instagram video, pointing to Netflix’s newly released Season 3 image of Francesca.
As she explained, the tweed jacket Francesca can be seen wearing may be a hint about her relationship status. “It is massively significant that she is wearing this material because it’s from Scotland, which is where her first husband, the Earl of Kilmartin, is from, and where she goes to live in the first years of her marriage,” she says.
In other words, this jacket could be a sign that Francesca and John actually get married during the upcoming season of Bridgerton. Quinn also points out that Francesca appears to be playing with a ring on the fourth finger of her left hand, which could be another sign that her marriage to John is coming up very soon.
Other Bridgerton fans think that this storyline could pay out next. “I can definitely see her being married to John during this season since her marriage story aligns with Colin in the books,” one fan agreed in the comments. “the storytelling in the wardrobe is so on point!” another said.
